Thank you for your interest in this exciting new teacher vacancy within The Fermain Academy. We view this vacancy as an outstanding opportunity and if successful you will play a key role in setting up a brand new intervention provision for year 7 and 8 students. We will give you the opportunity to design a curriculum / programme of study adding to our outstanding provision providing successful alternative education to students who need it the most.

Through developments since our opening in 2015 we are now looking to support year 7 and 8 students with an intervention programme to help them achieve in their mainstream schools. Students will spend a maximum of a term within the intervention unit and have a specific focus of core literacy and numeracy supported by an emotional resilience programme of study.

The anticipated cohort will be from the Macclesfield area and the successful candidate will work with up to (anticipated) 8 students with a learning mentor to support some of the vocational learning.

This is a great opportunity to get in on the ground level of this provision and work with the Principal, crafting the working processes, to really make a difference.

This job would suit any qualified teacher from NQT to a teacher with many years experience. We are looking for an individual who is versatile, dedicated and who thinks out side of the box, adding to the dedicated team already established.

Classroom Assistant

Hours per week – 32.5

Salary - £14,645 (pro rata – term time only, 32.5 hours per week)

8.30am – 15:30pm – Monday - Friday

The Fermain Academy is a new Alternative Provision Free School that opened its doors on the 1st September 2015. We now require someone to join our team as our SEN Teaching Assistant. We require an individual who is enthusiastic, conscientious and self-motivated, who would like to provide a key role in supporting our SEN Students.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar roll and will enjoy working with young people who have become disengaged with mainstream education, and exhibit behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. Relevant qualifications and training would be advantageous but are not essential.

Main duties will include:

  • Supporting individuals to complete set tasks within the classroom.

  • Promoting learning within the school environment.

  • Leading small groups under direction of the teacher.

  • Implementing behaviour strategies.

  • Working in partnership with teachers and other TAs to provide a positive environment for learning.

  • Community activities.

  • Offering support to individuals about home life/ personal issues.

This role will begin in September 2017 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and run until August 2018. The contract may be extended beyond this subject to funding and performance.
