Phone number: 01625 611001
At The Fermain Academy, we are passionate about helping our students to reach their full potential in their post-16 destinations. Our Pastoral Head and qualified careers lead, Mark Robinson provides all students with access to information, impartial advice and guidance to support them to make realistic and achieveable career plans to achieve their goals.
Key Stage 3 Careers Provision
At Key Stage 3, careers advice is delivered predominantly by all teaching staff through the curriculum. Students are supported to develop of knowledge of work, careers and their next steps through visits to work places, RSHE lessons around post-16 life and dedicated career focus sessions.
Key Stage 4 Careers Provision
At Key Stage 4, students access 1:1 support sessions and careers lessons from M. Robinson to discuss and prepare for their next steps and explore the application process and qualifications needed for their chosen pathway. Careers provision is also delivered through whole-school career development days, in which students are supported by staff to explore the career pathways from each curriculum area.
The Cheshire and Warrington Pledge
The Fermain Academy is pleased to work alongside the Cheshire and Warrington pledge to ensure a joined up and effective approach to careers provision. The Academy will become part of the newly established Pledge Countywide Hub in 2022/2023 enabling even more opportunities for local students.
How do we measure the impact?
The Careers programme is reviewed annually and then discussed at the governing board. We also monitor progress against the Gatsby benchmarks using the Careers Compass tool. The next review date is due in Spring 2022.
We also endeavour to secure work experience placements for our KS4 students. Where and when appropriate, placements are set up to allow students to expand their learning in vocational areas. This also helps students in terms of their post-16 decisions, further options and also career exploration.
The Fermain Academy strives to ensure that all students leaving school have a positive destination. The Careers Coordinator implements a careers surgery after GCSE results day in August to ensure all school leavers get the support they require. This support is ongoing and the Fermain will regularly be in touch with Year 12s and beyond, ensuring they get the support they require moving forward. We track school leavers for 3 years and, in addition, the Careers Coodinator makes himself available to these students for help and advice with applications to further opportunities including Higher Education
