Phone number: 01625 611001
At The Fermain Academy, we are passionate about helping our students to reach their full potential in their post-16 destinations. As our Pastoral Head and fully qualified Careers Lead, Mark Robinson provides all students with access to information, advice and guidance to support them to make realistic and achieveable career plans to achieve their goals.
Key Stage 3 Careers Provision
At Key Stage 3, careers advice is delivered predominantly by all teaching staff through the curriculum. Students are supported to develop of knowledge of work, careers and their next steps through visits to work places, RSHE lessons around post-16 life and dedicated career focus sessions.
Key Stage 4 Careers Provision
At Key Stage 4, students access 1:1 support sessions from M. Robinson to discuss and prepare for their next steps and explore the application process and qualifications needed for their chosen pathway. Careers provision is also delivered through whole-school career development days, in which students are supported by staff to explore the career pathways from each curriculum area.
The Cheshire and Warrington Pledge
The Fermain Academy is pleased to work alongside the Cheshire and Warrington pledge to ensure a joined up and effective approach to careers provision.
We also use a programme called Start Profile to help students from Years 7-13 work on an action plan that they can regularly update to reflect their current destination plans and careers choices.
Start is a free, online careers platform designed to connect 11-18 year olds with their future career potential. It combines the most comprehensive source of information with a personalised experience and career planning tools, helping our students to make more informed decisions about their future study and career options, as well as developing their employability. Start includes:
A student profile: students build their profile and access personalised study and career information.
Modules: activities to guide students through the information on Start at the right time. Up to date information: engaging content on what to study, where to learn and the world of work.
Locker: an online record of achievement to evidence skills for future applications and CVs.
Employability action plan: Students can set goals and stay in control of their career planning.
Start Profile can be accessed at home on this website https://login.startprofile.com/Login.aspx.
How do we measure the impact?
The Careers programme is reviewed annually and then discussed at the governing board. As part of this review we seek the views of parents and students through questionnaires during the year. We also monitor progress against the Gatsby benchmarks using Compass+. The next review date is Autumn 2021.
The link below will take you to the Skills and Growth website which provides useful information about the top employment sectors, growth, population etc. in the Cheshire East area and includes Poynton. The map shows the location of large employers and the numbers of small to medium size employers (SME), as well as some demographic information from figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) from the National Online Manpower Information System (NOMIS).
Please Note: The demographics are based on published the most recent Census 2011 information; and the strategic businesses listed are those companies with over 250 employees, with a turnover of £1m or more and with a head office – or main operating base – in Cheshire East.
